PCI-E 2.0 x16 card in a PCI-E 1.0 x8 slot?

ive got a really old pc at my place but recently its old gpu stopped functioning ... it was a PCI-E 1.0 x16 card... so i was wodering if a pci-e x16 2.0 card like a gt 710 would work fine in the pcie x8 1.0 slot...?

All PCI-E products are backwards compatible with their previous generation. So you can use a PCI-E 2.0 x16 card and use it in a PCI-E 1.0 x8, but keep in mind that you are severely limiting your bandwidth capability by doing so, and I would not recommend it.

PCI-E 2.0 x16 throughput is 8GB/s while a PCI-E 1.0 x8 is maxed out at 2GB/s. On top of the transfer rate being literally halved from 5GT/s down to 2.5GT/s.

You're welcome! If you aren't aren't worried about getting the most out of the card, then by all means it will work just fine. You won't notice any issues at all. :)
