Hello,

I've been dealing with some sort of vibration noise on my custom PC ever since I built it back in January 2017 but I can't stand it anymore. It usually happens when I start gaming. I shined my light through the window to see what's going but can't tell what's making the noise as nothing seemed to be shaking. Putting my hand on the side panel where the hard drive is sitting seemed to have stop the noise for like a few seconds or so. As I suspect it to be the hard drive, I've tried moving my hard drive (Hitachi) higher and the noise is still present but quiet down a bit. It might have something to do with the cables of the HDD. Also, all my screws are tightened. Please help!

Update: I've checked the fans and they're all spinning and fine.

I don't want to open my case when my desktop is running though. Another I can add is that the vibration noise makes some sort of buzz. The noise stops whenever I slightly press against the side panel(s) so I think it either has something to do with the drive bay, the HDD itself, or the cable making contact with the drive bay. Also, I forgot to mention that this HDD is about 5 years old so I don't what the exact HDD is.

Okay, I'll try when I get home. I don't get how taking the panels off while running is going help. Reason is, I don't think the panel makes contact with the bay when the noise happens as only when I press the panel against the drive bay, the noise stops.

Personally I would try to disconnect one chassis fan at a time and boot the computer to hear if the noise disappears. If its one of the chassis fans youll know right away. It could be the HDD too, I have an old HDD laying around that vibrates like crazy when plugged in, even tho it works flawlessly. if its the hard drive you can boot the computer and just lightly feel the HDD to feel if it vibrates like crazy and if so it might be time to change it out.

I don't think it's one of the chassis fans as I've checked them while they were running with a flash light, all ran perfectly fine. So in that case, I might have to get a newer HDD.

I've had two of my original chassis fans randomly start vibrating and making crazy much noise and I couldnt see anything wrong with them, but hey I'm all for checking the things that require the least amount of work first. Please do update when you've done a quick check. I ended up changing out the fans with some other ones I had laying around and boom good to go.

Okay, I'll check again once I get home but as I said in my original post, the volume of the noise decreased when I moved my HDD bay higher by switching places with other bays.

Okay, so I opened my case and it seemed a lot quieter. When I put my ear next to the HDD, there seems to be quiet hissing (or that must be just what I think it sounds like). Ever since I closed my case, I haven't heard a thing when playing some For Honor and GTA V.
