So I want to know what am I really getting if I get the 1800X over the 1700X.
The only thing I see is 3.4Ghz versus 3.6Ghz.
What does this extra .2 Ghz actually mean?

Is it worth the extra $100, will I see a noticeable difference?

For example;
I know people do all this bench mark testing and come up with these numbers and say the 1800X scored a 1600 while the 1700X scored a 1520, making it 5% better.

Solution
All the details aren't fully known just yet but based on known specs there seems to be little difference between a 1700x and 1800x. Maybe one will overclock better than the other? I would have expected at least more cache in the higher priced 1800x but no, they're the same.

The gtx 1070 vs 1080 comparison makes absolutely no sense and is nothing like just a 100mhz clock speed difference. There's a significant real world performance difference between the two and the gtx 1080 has an extra gpc, 5 additional sm's, 5 additional tpc's and 40 more tmu's than the 1070 does. The 1080's gddr5 runs at 10gb/s where the 1070's only runs at 8gb/s. The 1080 is capable of almost 40% higher tflop processing. That's not 'no difference just higher...
" will I see a noticeable difference?"
If that is the only difference the I would say it's unlikely that you'd notice a difference.

However I wouldn't plan 1 dollar until I see real benchmarks in various games and applications. (Personally I'd wait for Tom's to review the CPU line.)

Chip wise is there a difference between those two ? Just one and the same with clock speed differences? Why would 1800X overclock better?
XFR feels useless with 100Mhz cap
1700 is worth every penny we spend ( best choice i feel)

there is no difference between a 1700x and a 1800x beside the clock speed. Chips are exactly the same. The 1800x is a chip that passed the 4Ghz test. It might OC a bit more, or not at all. The 1700x might OC a bit or not at all...
The price difference is too important I think for the performance difference, so I got myself a 1700x instead. I could have gone for a 1700 and OC it up to 3.7Ghz like some are doing, but that means I would have had to get a more expensive motherboard and then pray that this chip OC good, but that's a gamble I don't like to take.
