Hello,

So I just recently purchased an ASUS ROG STRIX RX 480 8gb OC, and upon installing the new card I realized I needed to update the bios. I let the entire thing update, the full two restarts didn't touch the usb..

I have the Asrock z68 extreme3 gen 3 board just updated to version 2.3

After it finished my computer would blue screen at white loading windows wheel (win 10), the only way I could get windows to load was to remove all the hard drives except the one with windows on, as well as use sata 2 instead of the sata 3 ports. None of the sata ports seem to allow windows to boot. However in the bios the motherboard recognizes that there are HDD/SSD's plugged into the board..

I am not sure what's happening, maybe it was some bios setting that I am missing, I've tried AHCI or whatever that setting is called, still my sata 3's won't work.

Are there drivers I have to install or something I am missing??!

Please help me as I want to take advantage of my new card - hopefully without having to get a whole new board

EDIT : updated the motherboard bios

you have cpu integrated graphics?

ie--if you use integrated graphics instead of the gtx1070 do you still have the same problem?

sounds like the bios update is the problem but nice to rule out its nothing to do with your graphics card

and i am guessing that board isnt an asrock board with an A and B bios?

I don't know how to reply on my phone but I've installed the old card and the problem persists.. it's something to do with bios but don't know how to downgrade or what to install

I think this may be the case as well - but which drivers would I need?

Will be trying this for sure - I'm heading to class now to take a fluids exam so I'll be trying later in the evening - I hope this works!! It's not time for Ryzen just yet

The Motherboard drivers.

The two restarts didn't update the BIOS?... USB 3.0 needs drivers before it works properly, so your BIOS may not have updated. And if you also installed Windows from a USB 3.0 flash drive, the USB installer may have errors, and the Windows install may include system file errors.

The main cause seems to have started from using USB 3.0 without first installing it's drivers... Windows may have different errors included missing or corrupted drivers. I would suggest redoing everything but if you want to try and fix the Windows installation, try booting it with the SATA controller setting set to IDE Mode. If Windows still doesn't boot, insert the ASRock motherboard disk, and booting to the Windows installer, go into the Automatic/Startup Repair, and from the Command Prompt window, type:

"dism /image:c:\ /add-driver /Driver:X:\ /recurse"
Replace “X” with the mobo disk drive letter... and press Enter.

That command will install the motherboard drivers from the disk, and hopefully will boot Windows.

Ryzen was released yesterday so it won't be long before you can find them everywhere.

I've already removed the original card drivers

As for the boot cd, it's a win 7 install upgraded to win 10

I have updated the bios as it's a new layout as well as shows the new version.

I've searched high and low for sata setings, couldn't find any spot in which they were disabled.

Either downloaded of mobo disk drivers may help Windows boot, and the principle is the same, just tell the dism installer where the drivers are and hit Enter.
"dism /image:c:\ /add-driver /Driver:X:\ /recurse"

Your bios definitely has a section for sata devices. Are your sata devices showing in the bios?

When I got to advanced and click on storage, the hard drives plugged in show up under which sata slot they're connected to

I have mentioned that I've tried AHCI as well as IDE, I never had a raid so I know it's not that
