Newly built PC with no display then, no power

This is my first time building a computer. I have learned quite a lot from my experience but I was hoping I could use it by the end of this long process.

Here are my specs:

Asus Z170-E
IntelCore I5 6600k
Cooler Master 212 EVO
Rosewill Glacier 600W
Samsung 225gb SSD
Ballistix Sport 8gb RAM (x1)
Geforce GTX 980 ZOTAC
Asus DVD/CD Reader
Rosewill Rise Case
Cooler Master Ice Thermal Paste

Some of these parts were bought used such as the: SSD, CPU and Motherboard

I built all of this, but had the following problems:

I could not turn on the PC due to a fan being connected in the wrong spot, despite it reading CPU Fan. I disconnected it, all the fans began to run.
After having everything set up and running from the GPU, disk drive to USB ports (it even ejected and seemed to read disks) the video was not working. I took apart everything and put it in again. Nothing. Still a problem I have but now I've got an even bigger problem.

Now, while sitting, confused, looking for something I may have overlooked, there was a lever above my case that read S with a half circle immediately above it. I switched it upwards out of curiosity and as soon as I did that, the entire desktop shut off. I can not turn it on again.

I have already read the "Please read before posting BOOT problems" and nothing seems to work.

It seems as if I am inherently terrible at this. Either way, please help!

Things to note:
I dropped the cpu onto the cpu pins while reinstalling and bent a few of them; using a needle I lifted them back up. It appears to be working as the red lights on "CPU" and "Boot Disk" are no longer flashing red, there is only a green light reading "PWR_LED".
The RAM seems to have an evident scratch on the very very end of the plug, doesn't seem like a scratch that would cause it to not work though.
Did I short my motherboard? Could my PSU be dead? Is there a possibility that I have toasted my GPU during installation which is why it wont read video.

Solution
That's gotta be motherboard. The least likely is the CPU, but the motherboard is the information highway between all the different components, and seems like nothing is working. I honestly think it is especially after what you described with the case. Probably popped a capacitor or shorted something.

After I flicked this switch it refuses to power on whether its off or on. Perhaps it was coincidental that it shorted out as soon as I flicked it but when I push the power button, it lights and turns off very quickly.

UPDATE: I have tried this method called "BREADBOARDING" and reset the CTRL DRCT and Shorted the Power buttons. It turned on after.

After testing each of the fans, I concluded that bad installation of the fan controllers (I connected all the fans and the controllers on one plug which must have caused a bug which prevented the PSU to boot) was the issue. I had to unplug each of the SATA cables to conclude the fans were interrupting power.

However, the last issue remains. No Video. I am using a DVI, no HDMI available. The monitor is fully functional as it is currently displaying this text on another pc.
So do you think the PSU PCI-E cable or jack is faulty? Or perhaps the GPU? Could it be a shorted motherboard?

There's actually quite a few things that could be faulty. You need to spread the fans around or get cables that have external power that supplies the fans.

Try different ports on the card. Also, try that cable in the motherboard to see if it displays.

After I disconnected the 3 fans and connected the fan controller to the PSU, it began working again.
My only issue is getting display. I am absolutely terrified that I fried my CPU or GPU. Those were pricey.

I've tried moving the GPU into 2 different ports while testing graphics card configurations for each slot so-
VGA Port 1 RAM 1, Ram 2, RAM 3, RAM 4, VGA Port 2 RAM 1... and so on

But none work. If all of the other parts are running except for the video card, does that narrow the issue at all? Could the PSU or GPU be DOA?

If the Integrated Graphics is located on the CPU, shouldn't I be able to post without the GPU, assuming all of the other components are fully functional?

It seems like some of my definitions are incorrect, sorry. I am new to this. I sat the motherboard on its box and connected the RAM, the cpu cooler and its fan, the psu, cpu and shorted the power pins. The fans powered on(when it previously couldn't) but I never tested for display. Are you supposed to?

So, yes. Breadboarding is assembling the system outside it's case.

Yeah I would test the display and see what happens.

It sounds like something in your case may be causing an issue. Did you use the standoffs and everything when you installed it into the case?

I breadboarded once more and still no display. Every thing runs. I powered the switch and shorted the two pins, no video still. With or without the GPU.

When I install the GPU without the 8 pins, the fans still run and basically acts the same way without it.

The standoffs appear to be fine.

Same effect.

I just reinstalled it into the case. Do the PCI-E go on the motherboard or on the GPU? I placed the dual PCI-E on the GPU and the dual 4 pins on the motherboard.

I will have a friend bring his GPU tomorrow, and buy another PSU. I will test them both and see what happens.

Since this post I have tried:

Replacing the GPU, RAM and PSU. All three of my parts seem to be fully functional.

Currently, I have it breadboarded with a new Ballistix RAM installed, a beeper, Heatsink, CPU and Power Supply (CPU and 24 pin connected) through DVI.
No signal yet.

I think this narrows the issue down to the motherboard or the CPU? But my problem is that there is no beeping at all.
