Soooo ... a little off topic but I am getting frustrated!
We have a Dell laptop with a docking station. The docking station has two display/dvi ports and a vga port.
The display/dvi ports are hooked to dual monitors.
We have an 8 year old TV. It has a "PC" input.
I took an old vga cable, plug it into the VGA port on the docking station and the TV ... works great.
The problem is the cable is too short ... I trip over it as it goes across the floor ... it is about 10 - 15 ft long.
So, I go on ebay .... buy a 25 ft vga cable. Says it supports 1080 resolution.
No way .... the cable is thin. Plug it in ... the picture will not fill the screen. I get a black space around the picture.
OK, so I buy another. I paid twice the price. The reviews said it worked great ... all 5 stars.
Again ... no way! The same problem.
My old 10-15 ft cable works great but it too short.
The new cables seem to limit my resolution.
How can I tell a "good" cable from a "cheep" cable?
I was about to order a Belkin off Amazon but then I read that some of these are knock offs and don't work!
I was even thinking about a VGA to HDMI converter but then I started reading all the problems people had with these!
We only have an antenna (no cable or dish) so we watch a lot internet on the TV.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
Mike
