I have 2 pcs right now. One is the kids and has a 2560 x 1080 monitor. The graphics card recently went so I bought a replacement. The replacement is a rx 480 8 gb. In my pc I have a 290x 4 gb. I run 3 1080p monitors independently and in eyefinity + 1 1440p monitor above them. The question is which card should I use to run which setup. My understanding is that they perform similar, but will the extra v ram help the additional monitors in my pc? Should I bother swapping them out? I guess I just need to know which card I should use for which set up.

Although the extra VRAM would give you a more consistent level of performance, I'm not sure it would be worth it over your current R9 290X, which besides the VRAM amount, is nearly on the same level of performance.
