Modem Router & Home IoT connected devices.

Hi,

I'm having internet connection issues on both Ethernet and my WiFi at home. Even on the ethernet connected PC I frequently have to 'Refresh' a website to get it to load; and that includes a Google Search. When it does the speed is perfectly acceptable.

On WiFi the issue is the same but I have the added need to toggle the WiFi connection on phones and tablets to establish a connection; even occasionally I need to completely restart it. The signal is strong throughout the house mostly four or five bars full. I have on many occasions resorted to switching off modem/router for about a minute or so to force a re-connection to all the devices.

I am wondering if the number of devices that are connected might causing this issue. As time goes by this list is certainly growing.

A Smart TV, Internet Radio, Nest Heating Control, Nest Protect CO2/Smoke Detector, 2 separate Gateways to with electricity usage & solar PV Panels, Internal Security Devices, 3 Tablets, 2 & frequently many more Smartphones.

Obviously the IoT devices will only be connecting occasionally but what I am wondering is whether the overall number might be the cause of this problem and if so should I be considering purchasing a different modem/router?

The broadband speed is only 2.5 Mb/s but anytime I need to refresh and get a connection the web pages load quickly.

The overall question really is 'would upgrading the modem solve this issue?'

I would really appreciate any help.
