Hello all,

The quick and dirty is I dowloaded NVIDIA driver 378.66 update for 'For Honor', got the black screen except for mouse, I tried to fix it with my BIOS, now I can't see my monitor. What's the best way to proceed?

I want to reset my bios manually by removing the CMOS battery then figure out how to get into safe mode on Windows 10 (F10 doesn't work!!).

The slightly longer version: I haven't changed my driver in years for my GTX 690 since I normally play older games (SWTOR, Skyrim). I started playing For Honor but was getting game crashes to my desktop then I see NVIDIA came out with a better driver designed for my game and others so of course I download it. Now I get black screens even on reboot, sometimes I see my mouse moving, sometimes not on restarts. I try to get into safe mode but kept getting into BIOS (I have windows 10) so in my angry angst I went to the graphics configuration and I changed to iGPU thinking it'd just use the GPU of the motherboard. Nope, now I get complete blackness when restarting my PC--can't even see my mouse. I know, stupid me.

So instead of doing what I think is right I figure I'd calm down and ask the forums. Resetting my BIOS should put it back to default so I can get an image on my monitor and go from there, which leads to my next question--how in the world can I get into safe mode with Windows 10, because F10 at reboot doesn't work.

Solution
If you set it to igpu in the BIOS, remove your video card before using it, since your're having issues getting signal. That should allow you to get back into windows.

From there, you need to download Display Driver Uninstaller. (I'd provide link but official website is blocked at work).

Reboot

Download and install driver from nvidia website.

So I should remove my graphics card and hook my monitor to the motherboard to get a picture? Or just remove graphics card, put it back in, then restart computer with monitor connected to card?

Before you do anything, I want to check that:
-iGPU is enabled in BIOS
-your monitor's video cable is connected to the motherboard, not the gpu.

'' I see NVIDIA came out with a better driver designed for my game and others so of course I download it''

just because its a new drive don't make it a better driver as you maybe seeing ..

go back to a older driver or the one you had last that did work

maybe well before you install a driver review any feed back threads first ?
