My CPU are constantly on maximum clock speed: temps and fan noise is out of control

I have an Asus N550JK laptop with an Intel Core i7-4700Q. This may the machine will have two years with me.

About three weeks ago, out of nowhere, I noticed the fans started going stronger than usual. I also started to feel my laptop a lot hotter, just by touching it. Been doing a bit of digging and, to the best of my knowledge, I identified the problem: my CPU is constantly on max clock speed. I came up with these results with HWiNFo:

That can't be normal, right?

A couple of things to consider:

  • - I haven't properly checked, but I dismiss the option of it being a maintenance/dust/ventilation problem for a couple of reasons: 1. Laptop is relatively new and good quality. 2. The problem started overnight. 3. My CPU-related findings.
    - I did a partial cleanup of the system, aware that the problem could be a malware or something similar. Installed Avast, ran virus scan (it found nothing). Installed Malwarebytes, ran scan (found 12 items, eliminated them). Ran CCleaner.
    - Played with the power settings and the CPU use in them. Tried the 99% trick and messed with it a bit in general, came up with no results.
    - I don't know how useful this can be, but I find it very odd that the fans start immediately after turning on the computer, when it is usually very, very cold. Basically, they are NEVER turned off. That didn't use to happen.
    - I'm on Windows 10. The laptop came originally with 8.1, but the problem started waaay after Windows 10 installed.

Any help will be much appreciated, thanks! Also, any info you need on my system, just ask please!

I feel like your turbo boost is stuck on. You said that you upgraded it from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 recently, but that was long before the issue became evident. I'm wondering if the Intel turbo-boost driver didn't install properly. Probably difficult thing to try to remember, but had you run any games or CPU intensive applications after installing Win10, but prior to the day when the fans kicked into high. Did the fans slow back down normally afterward?

Yes! They still do, actually. But they never turn off. They are ALWAYS on, even when turning on the laptop, when it is usually dead cold. Another thing: GPU temps sit at 0°C before playing games. After running Skyrim (for example), they get very hot (90°C). That's not what seems weird to me, though, but the fact that after I exit the game, the GPU drops to like 60°C but never more, and I need to reset the laptop for it to completely turn off. CPU as well: it never gets to the previous, colder point before running the game, but I guess that's more understandable since it's still running after closing the game. Still, 50° C is probably too much for an idle CPU

I think

Are there any customizable options in your bios? Do you have the option to modify any passive applications from there? Laptop's don't generally have many options in the bios, but these types of features are not uncommon.

I could check for anything specific. However, I already did a reset to the bios settings, if you're thinking of something similar. Of course, didn't work.
