Hi guys, I came here to get some help on finding a suitable cpu upgrade for my pc that will show noticeable performance difference. Right now my pc has

AMD FX-4300 Overclocked at 4.4Gz (Currently)
8GB DDR3
EVGA GTX 960 4GB
500W PSU

I was wondering what CPU upgrade will give me more performance right now that can stay under my budget of $200.

I really appreciate this website and forum for be able to help me last time, so I trust I can get the same professional help again!!!

Thank you guys !

ALSO MY MOTHER BOARD IS

gigabyte ga-78lmt-usb3

so it supports AM3+ socket cpu's

Well, your motherboard can take anything up to an FX-8370, so you can definitely upgrade to a better CPU for under $200...& especially without having to reinstall Windows & essentially build from scratch.

If you're really thinking of replacing your build...I'd wait another week or 2 until Ryzen is officially released & benchmarked, because you might find that a Ryzen build would be more cost-effective than an Intel build.

it is unlikely you will see any major gains with another fx cpu. you can likely drop in an fx 8000 series for that price if your motherboard supports it.

if not, then a move to an intel chip would be the way to go. for $200 you can get an i3 n a mobo that uses your ddr3 ram. would be a big improvement

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i3-6100 3.7GHz Dual-Core Processor ($108.37 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: Asus H170M-E D3 Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($89.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $198.36
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

this $200 bucks would be a greater performance gain than an fx 8350 cpu and uses 1/4 the power!!

but if you'd like to stick with an fx chip, then we need to know what the mobo model is so can see what it supports

My bad about not mentioning the Socket type
I have a
gigabyte ga-78lmt-usb3
AM3+ socket motherboard

This one might help but the performance gain may not be a big as you're looking for:

Notice the mild difference... Personally I wouldn't spend that much money on such a slight difference.

You want faster?
Get a newer high level Intel Core i5 and a motherboard to accept that CPU.

It's unfortunate but Intel has overshot AMD by miles in terms of performance. Maybe AMD's new cpus will change that but either way you'd need a new mother board as the new AMD CPUs are socket AM4 and an AMD socket cannot use an Intel CPU.

True, True, I was thinking I might have to switch over to Intel for a real upgrade.

for your $200 budget, the i3 i linked is about the best you can do. newer models are more costly as well as requireing ddr4 ram which adds to the total cost.

you can save up for the upgrade and go for better if you can wait. otherwise, right now an i3 is about the best you're gonna manage.

this is ideally, I'm going to keep my eyes on the Ryzen Series to see which Cpu suits my upgrade needs!

An AMD FX-8350 currently runs for 150.00. This would fit your AM3+ requirement and your budget req.
