I7 7700k vs i5 7600k

Solution
Just ordered an i5 7600k as an upgrade for my Z170 build(using a locked i5 6500 now). Should be plenty of power for most gaming. However, I admit I was quite surprised in watching and reading some reviews how many modern games and other software programs utilize Hyperthreading in the i7s to boost performance. Some games show a healthy boost between the 2 CPUs. Still, being that you already own the i5 7600k, I'd stick with it and OC if it were me.

Do you need to or do you want it? Don't waste your money if you don't need the upgrade.

The AVG difference is 7% btw so it isnt really worth it either way.

What are you coming from? If you are doing a platform upgrade (motherboard, ram, cpu) you should wait for the new AMD reviews. There is a chance that they will perform just as well for a lower price. Probably best to wait until you have all the options.

If I had to choose i5 or i7, I would go i7. I do video rendering on occasion and I generally have lots of things running. The extra cache and hyper threading is helpful.

Gaming performance in a very few games will you notice a performance difference if you were to upgrade to a i7-7700K. If anything I'd overclock your current i5 as far as it will safely go and enjoy the performance boost (depends on game/program, will need Z170/Z270 to OC).
