XSPC liquid loop leaking from reservoir

I recently sent in my old dual-bay reservoir/pump because it was making a lot of noise. Now I've gotten the replacement, but when I got everything connected and started the machine, I saw a quick leak from the reservoir. I shut it off quickly and pulled it out, and about half the coolant had leaked in a matter of seconds.

I've not built a computer before, and this one I ordered from Ironside, so I really don't know what's going on. I tested it with the res/pump outside the case, and found that the liquid is leaking from the outlet port of the res, so fast that I'm not sure any is making it to the inlet. I'm considering getting bigger barb fittings, but I still am not sure if that's the problem. Any help is appreciated, and I'll provide all the additional details I can.

Yeah looks like the Barb has been cranked with a wrench. Possibly stripped the threads on that Acrylic Res. I would still use Hose clamps over cable ties too. They're cheap but not as cheap as zip ties.

Compression fittings would also help in the fact that you can tighten them with your fingers. Reducing the risk of cracking or stripping plastic threads.

If you want to spend bare minimum look into a new reservoir and a couple hose clamps. Don't over tighten. It's not a pressure washer hose :)

Edit: To answer your question about Compression Fittings. Pretty much any will work. It's all a matter of what look you like Chrome/Black etc.
Koolance, Enzotech, Bitspower, EK, Swiftech, XSPC, Monsoon, Phobya, Alphacool all good quality...
Hello... can post a digital on a IMG poster for us?

Basically any 'hose barb fitting" needs to have Teflon tape added to the threads for a proper seal, when screwed into a "tank"... can you see any "white" tape or sealing material used on the threads there?

http://imgur.com/a/S8kgt the top is the barb next to a segment of tubing, the bottom are the fittings in the reservoir.

There is no white tape, but there is a black rubber ring at the base of the threads on each one.

Edit 2: removed the edit I did, as I meant to put it on a comment further down.

I've got the hose clamps that came with the original build, but they seem to be too big for the tubes and fittings, as the outlet is really loose even when it's tightened all the way (don't know about the inlet, the cable tie is too tight around it for me to take it off). I'll look into compression fittings, is there any you'd recommend for this particular problem? I have a couple of these left over from some previous work I did on it recently, would they work? https://www.amazon.com/XSPC-Compression-Fitting-Chrome-4-pack/dp/B00NODEWAE

Edit: It also seems like the end of the tubing leading to the Outlet port is somewhat wider. When I put that barb fitting into the segment of tubing I cut off the other tube (it was too long), it fit fairly snugly, and was actually somewhat difficult to pull out. However, when I put the same fitting in the outlet tubing, it was fairly loose, and even slipped out when I would turn it upside-down. The end of the outlet tubing is also visually wider, probably stretched by a barb fitting bigger than the one I have now.

Could the problem be that? The tubing being stretched at the end? If so, would I need to just order more tubing and replace that?

Hello... Ok the Black rubber ring is called a "O ring" and are used for pressure seals too... they can be found at your Local hardware store.

Yes... different types of Hose materials will have different 'plastic" characteristics to it... some will stretch and return, some will just stretch and not return over a barb... this is why rubber hose is used in most demanding situations... there are Hose materials and fittings for all kinds of sealing applications. Tylon is a common Low cost Clear "elastic" hose material used with barb fittings too.

Sometimes Appling heat to a Plastic material/hose BEFORE, will help it to stretch/install it over a Barb... and Sometimes applying heat afterwards will allow the plastic to form/return afterwards... all depends on the plastic material used. B /

What I see in the second picture is the Plastic housing is cracked at the fitting... this could have been due to Over tightening the Metal part in a Plastic opening B / this is common mistake in a lot installs... basically the 'O" ring is used here in a LOW pressure seal, And you need only to make contact with the 'O" ring... But not crush it between the Tank and the fitting.

Plastic vs Metal, the metal part will destroy/crack the plastic... Epoxy-JB weld or a new tank?

Here's a good place in US that carry's that type of stuff

This is the ONLY place in Canada that sells Watercooling parts. Very competitive pricing and they ship abroad

Compression fittings ended up fixing it. Once I got them tightened on right (and replaced the o-ring in the pump after a near-catastrophic leak), the loop stopped leaking completely. Now I just need to get some new tubing, because the ones I have now are barely long enough to reach the res, and I
A) can barely pull it out to fill it up, and
B) worry that the tubes are gonna yank out of the fittings every time I have to forcibly pull to refill it.

Oh that's good. New tubing wouldn't hurt, looked like there was a little build up inside old tubing. Glad your res wasn't cracked then. Don't get the super cheap tubing. It will kink. Make sure you get the right inside/outside diameter tubing as well.
