I have recently upgraded my gpu form a 1050 ti to a 1060 3gb version. I am now looking into upgrading my old motherboard and use a new intel or amd chipset. With the new launch of ryzen cpu's, I am not sure on whether to upgrade form haswell to skylake or kabylake or to upgrade to a ryzen cpu since I will need to change my motherboard and cpu anyway.

Current PC Specs:
Motherboard: Asus B85 Pro Gamer
GPU: MSI Gaming X GTX 1060 3GB
Memory: 16GB HyperX Fury 1600mhz ddr3
PSU: Thermaltake S.M.A.R.T SE 530 W
CPU: Intel I3 4160 @ 3.6 ghz
Cooler: Cryorig A40 240mm AIO cooler
Case: Thermaltake View 27
Storage: 1 TB WD Blue HDD

Hey! i remember you too. I bought the gtx 1060 and installed it in my system already. Now I'm planning ahead and looking to upgrading my motherboard and cpu as well to match up to the power of the gtx 1060. My budget would be about $700 for the motherboard and CPU and RAM could also be an issue as I'm using ddr3 and all versions above haswell are running ddr4, meaning i would need to replace those as well.

Well the thing is the GTX 1060 cannot be used in SLI .So.... and maybe i will wait for ryzen and see whether i should consider going for it

yup, for got about that :D probably y i asked u to consider the 470 then?
so best to wait n see if the new fury with hbm 2 is better than the 1070.

any motherboards you can suggest which are good for skylake if i intend to go for intel instead of AMD?

the asrock z270 sli i picked above in the list should fit ur bill and includes all the options from overclocking to sli.
if u just want a mobo for non oc i7 and single gpu, i would recommend the msi b250 mortar.
but y though? for 700 u could go for 7700k and sli mobo along with the sli ready psu like i posted above. the 7700k with oc can beef u up for easily 3-4 years to come.

also wait for ryzen and if good go for something like this https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Z9dB7h

ok thanks for recommending, I'll probably never SLI any gpu unless i win the lottery or something like that but as for the cpu, I'm looking into a i5 kaby lake or sky lake cpu and not intending to go full on i7, also for ryzen, it looks really promising as it provides so much cores and threads with significantly lower price point. so i may consider going ryzen if its cheaper and better.

nowadays sli is actually pretty bad. not only it consumes a lot of power, with the sli cost u could get an equally powerfull card with less tdp...
