Want to upgrade my GTX 970. What's right for me?

Hi everyone,
I recently did a new PC build. I bought everything new other than the GPU, which is my EVGA GTX 970 SC. I wanted to keep it because I absolutely love it and I thought it hadn't aged a bit. My goal is to run some of my favorite games on their max settings, games like:

-Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (Even with the horrible optimization)
-The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
-Watch Dogs 2
-MGS 5

Now I know that I can run these games on decent settings but I'd love to also upgrade my GPU for future games too. The issue is that I have no idea what type of GPU to look for. A friend of mine told me to look at the new GTX 1070, and the 1080. I really just want to get my money's worth out of an amazing GPU.

My PC specs are:
-Intel core i5-7600 LGA 1151 @ 3.5GHz
-MSI B250 Gaming M3 MB
-EVGA 650BQ 80 Plus Bronze PSU

Like I said earlier, I would love to get a GPU that I wouldn't have to worry about upgrading for the next few years, and I'd love to see a great performance upgrade from the 970.
Thanks everyone

Solution
personally, wait for the 1080ti to drop, see if that shakes the prices up a little.

What resolution?

a 1080 for 1080p is massive overkill.
a 1070 is excellent for 1080p and very good for 1440p
a 1060 would be only a little increase and not worth it.

Personally I would say that anything below a 1080 is not worth the cost, but it is also too much for just 1080p.

I would actually say wait for the 1170 and just live with the 970, it's still a great card. The 1170 might offer better DX12 optimisations that the 10XX doesn't do that well at.

So - currently GTX 970 is giving all the performance you need and you're satisfied with it, right?
Why don't you wait until some new game gets released and GTX 970 is not enough anymore?
By the time it happens, there most likely will be even better graphics card options available (cheaper, more powerful).

IMHO there's not really much point in future-proofing, because new and better products get released all the time. You make the purchase, when you need it, not before that. Or you end up spending a crap-load of extra money, you could have spent in some better way.

In your honest opinion, which card company would you recommend? I was thinking of just staying with EVGA but I'd like to get some professional opinion on what's best.

Thanks!
