I have 2x4GB of RAM atm and I want to upgrade. Should I get another 2x4, 1x8 or it doesnt matter?

MAobo: MSI z87-g41
RAM: 2x4 Hyperx Black DDR3 1600mhz
GPU: nvidia 760 2GB
CPU: Intel i5 4690 3.50 GHZ

This is the last time I want to upgrade my PC when it comes to RAM (if I ever upgrade I want to get some DDR4 RAM) so space isnt/will not be a problem.

The reason I want to upgrade is because one of my RAM sticks is broken and I have to send both of them back so I decided to buy 8 more gigs so I can use my PC meanwhile. While Im here I might aswell ask: with my current PC is it worth it having 16GB of RAM? Obviously the more the merrier but are there games/programs which will work/run faster/better and not get bottlenecked by other components (the GPU most likely)?

you can mix two modules but you might not get the right speed, timings or the dual channel feature enabled

about amount, some games this days are using 6 gbs of ram or even more, so the 8 gb limit has ben reached, so have 16 is a good idea now

if you do video editing, 16 will not be used but surely 12 will

so yes, if you can buy 2x8gbs kit, go for it, it will not be wasted if you use that kind of games or such apps like adobe premier

If I had the money to just buy 2x8 I would have at least add it in the title if not do it already without asking. I already have 2x4 and I dont want to spend time trying to find a buyer. Is 4x4 that bad? If its just a bit slower than 2x8 or its bad when you OC I dont really care. As long as the side effects arent that bad Im ok with it.
