Hi!

I'm having a higher CPU usage problem causing lag in games, videos and music playback. This problem appears when i'm connected to the internet. It started yesterday just after changing my broadband subscription to virgin media and using the new faster internet connection with a speed of up to 71MB/s. I use Wifi and the adaptor i'm using is CSL - 300Mbps WiFi PCI Express (PCIe) card / adapter. A really good adaptor that I had no problem with since I bought it. Link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00O0W3RYK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

When I play online games, it lags. Task manager shows about 41% of CPU usage by the game. When I play music it sort of distortes or lags the sound. Same goes with videos.
Can someone help me out please?

a virus, spyware or something like that is causing problems

also see what apps and programs are running, some could be downloading and applying a bunch of updates

run adwcleaner or any other spyware removal tool, what antivirus are you using?

Thank you for your resposne!

I can see that there are about 84 background processing apps (including windows apps, chrome plug-ins and so on) They usually have very low or zero CPU usage. I have been using avast antivirus and some other spyware and antivirus software and they reported no virus. Today I removed all antivirus programs to see if I can get an improvement but it was a fail try.

I dont think this has something to do with a virus because the computer was just fine before using the faster broadband (two days ago). I feel like it is a network issue which I have no idea of fixing.

I will scan my pc with the adwcleaner anyway and see the result.

Update: I just used the adwcleaner but sadly the problem is still there.

if you have concerns about that, consult your isp to see if there is something wrong there, on your pc keep a antivirus and try the adwcleaner

also see what apps are you using, at least the big ones, near the clock on the taskbar, what can be uninstalled or closed

Any internet related app I open uses more CPU than it used to. It is becasue of the new internet connection. When I turn off the internet connection everything works like it used to. All the lagging problmes and high CPU usages disappear.

I do not have this issue on my smart phone or iPad.

I will use a USB wifi adaptor and see the result. Will update you.

It turned out that the problem was with the wireless PCIe network adapter. Somehow it didn't want to work properly with the new broadband connection. Changed the adaptor with a USB 2 wireless adaptor and every lag problem was destroyed.
