I have an Asus k56cb. It comes with an 750gb hdd and you can also buy an 24gb mSSD with it.So what is the point of having 24gb ssd? At first i tought "oh you just install the OS into it" but then i checked google, people said " it is for hdd caching". What does this mean exactly? I shouldn't install my OS into ssd?

It does make a difference over time. Especially if you have a regular set of programs you open. It is not as good as a pure SSD arrangement.

No need to replace the optical drive. Just change the SSD and BIOS settings. Then install Windows on the large SSD.
It acts like a hybrid drive. Your computer caches whatever is most commonly accessed on your hard drive onto the SSD to speed up performance of that data. Usually OS files and frequently used applications are cached.

24GB is too small to use as a boot drive. Unless you are using a lightweight OS. Such as a Linux distro like Elementary OS.

Personally, I would replace the SSD with a larger unit and dump the hard drive. Then have everything on the SSD. Your laptop will be much more responsive and it could improve battery life a little. Perhaps a Samsung 850 Evo mSATA or 2.5" model or a Crucial MX300 to save some money.

Is 24gb really too small? I don't think system files are that big. Sadly i don't have the money to replace my hdd with a ssd. So that is not really possible.

Just the OS isn't. Windows updates, the ever growing Winsxs folder, log files, &c will eat up that 24GB in no time.

When I check my Windows 10 installation. If I just include the Files and Folders for Windows and other system files. I am using 24GB. Windows 7 is even worse with all the years of updates.

That is completely excluding all User and Program folders. Which is unrealistic. As some user files have to be on the C drive the biggest being AppData. Also there is software which has to be in the Program Files and ProgramData folders.

I see. Thank you for your answer. So, is getting a 24gb ssd just for caching worth it? Will it really make a difference? Or should i just try ditching my optic driver and use a caddy for a bigger ssd.
