Hey guys. So I have a bit of a problem.
My laptop was giving me grief and it was because of the hard drive (kept on booting my laptop to BIOS and there was nothing on the boot device list, including the drive itself). So I ripped it out and decided to simply copy everything on it somewhere else. What I thought would be an easy process turned to the most torturous time of my life (maybe not, but you understand my struggle).
The hard drive wouldn't show up on Windows but it would show on Linux. On Linux I couldn't open the hard drive so I tried using the terminal and I got an input/output error on some files (which were the ones I need). Can't remember what a bunch of my friends and I tried to bypass that, but it didn't work. So I decided to try data recovery instead. I got Yobot (hope I spelt it right) and it almost worked! It was searching the partions and when it reached 92% (imagine that), the click of death began. That was my first encounter with it, so I kinda panicked. I tried terminating the process but it froze so I did a force close via Task Manager. The clicking persisted so I decided to eject it. It wouldn't eject safely (or maybe I just wasn't patient enough) so I ripped it out.
Now the hard drive won't show up on explorer (but it did before the clicking so I'm guessing that was a RAW hard drive situation) but it shows on my device list. When I click properties, I don't get much information about it. I can eject it via the task bar but that's about it.
I tried using Yobot again and the hard drive didn't show up.
I'm a highly optimistic individual so I stubbornly believe there is hope for my hard drive (unsurprisingly half my life is on it so I must have hope).
So any suggestions? On a scale of one to ten, what's the status of my hard drive (1 being I can get my work, and 10 being I can get all my work back).
I'd really, really appreciate the help guys, so please do me the biggest of favors and help me.
Thank you so very much in advance.
