So I'm a new pc builder and have been trying to look into new parts to build my first pc. I showed it to my Dad, he says that the parts I chose would be way too low spec and that I would be better off getting a laptop at the same price point is this true?

Here's my parts list

Laptops throttle and run at reduced power consumption and thermals. Laptop CPUs especially run at low frequencies which kill gaming performance.

You couldn't get a laptop that would perform as well as that desktop for the price.

Unless if you run games that require a lot of multithreaded performance, you should be able to run quite a few games maxed out at 1080P.

Not quite a true comparison.
Yes, that desktop will handily beat a $670 laptop. But you're leaving off a couple of major things.

$670 + $90 for the OS + $130 for a monitor = ~$900
You could probably get a $900 laptop to compare performancewise.

But the desktop will be far longer lasting and upgradeable.

I already have the OS ready to be put into the new desktop so there's no need to add extra pricing for that

OK then...even better.
Yes, that desktop will beat a similarly priced laptop.

Too many people miss that technicality, though.
