Hi, i just bought a kingstone sdd 240gb SV400, i have all my stuff in my currently and very old HDD WD 320gb, my plan is to backup all my data in a external hdd, format the hdd without installing the OS and then install the the OS (W7) in the sdd for primary use.

do i need to install the OS in the HDD for ssd windows to recognize it and use it as storage or only a clean formar will do the trick?

in the SSD i want to have the os, daily software, some light weight data and more important my most played games.

and in the HDD: music, videos, heavy weight data and other not so important games.

i dont know if i need to extra steeps or do something before/after the install and if so easy when i need to install a game in the HDD just need to select the hdd in the oss and woala! or i need to create some specific folders or something like that

Thanks in advance

Solution
No unplug the old hdd, install windows on the ssd, then connect the old hdd again.

If you want to format it, quick format it in windows after you install windows on the ssd
