Asus Strix 1080 fan headers not working

I've tried a variety of 4pin fans in the fan headers on the Strix 1080 A8G and none of the fans seem to work. I've manually adjusted the fans on the card itself to make sure they're spinning, however still no movement on the case fans plugged in to the card.

How do I activate the graphics card's fan headers? Also, do the case fans plugged in to the GPU just run at the same speed (%) as the fans on the card itself? Is there any way of changing the speed of the case fans independently based on the temp of the GPU? Obviously the noise levels associated with the case fans and the GPU fans are different, so it'd be useful to be able to adjust each separately...

One final question. The AURA software has a setting that links the RGB lighting to the temperature of the card, however the colours it uses just don't go with my case. Is there a way of having user defined colours? Would seem like a missed opportunity to have RGB lighting witghout allowing customisation!

Thanks in advance...

The fan extensions only run at 60c plus, or at 50% power or more if you manually turn them on. I really recommend that you do not use those. I found out the hard way theyre actually really terrible.

Aura doesn't let you change the colors of that unfortunately. Aura does let you customize, but not as much as I'd like to see. I use aura for my Mobo, GPU, and Ram, and it's frustrating tbh, but I can still get the color I want static or in breathing.

So there's no way to set a fan curve for the case fans connected to the GPU? It begs the question....why go to all the trouble of putting fan headers on a graphics card without some basic options to customise operation? It would be so easy to build that functionality in to the software. It'd also be so easy to build some more customisation in to the RGB lighting as well. After building such great hardware, ASUS have really let themselves down with the software.

I've got a great MoBo (Asrock Z97m OC formula) with plenty of customisation options for fan curves so not a huge problem for me, but all the fan curves are linked to the CPU temperature, so I was looking forward to setting a couple of the intakes to GPU temp. Ah well...should just be happy with the fact that it's a great card, despite the useless software.

As always, thanks for the info dude.

I asked the same thing myself.

Nope. The minimum for automated cooling settings is 60c/50%.

Just plug them into the motherboard. Trust me, get some splitters. It pays off. I got a splitter for my two top fans, and a four way splitter on my cpu cooling radiator. Huge difference for me. I could oc higher at the same temps from just a splitter.

Helps out significantly.

I would say use fan xpert but it's proprietary ASUS software under Ai suite and probably won't work on that board. It's outstanding and you can have each fan respond to the highest of three of any temp sensor on the board or GPU even.

Just plug them into the board and use your built in software. The card should work wonders for itself anyways. You usually won't see the card get hot without the cpu, so you should really see a decline from heat issues anyways. My cpu always runs higher than my GPU.
