Will Ryzen hardware be compatible with Windows 7?

Some sites http://www.pcgamer.com/amd-confirms-there-will-be-no-ryzen-drivers-for-windows-7/ are saying Ryzen won't be 7 friendly and others http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/amd-ryzen-cpus-to-support-windows-7-with-drivers.html and saying it will be fully compatible. http://www.pcmag.com/news/351565/amd-ryzen-processors-will-support-windows-7 and https://www.technobuffalo.com/2017/02/09/amds-new-ryzen-chips-wont-support-windows-7/ are another couple of examples. Where's the official word straight from AMD? All this he said, she said isn't helpful.

Solution
As you note, "he said/she said" does not count.

Very soon after they are in the wild, someone will either install Win 7 on it and show us, or show that it cannot be done.
Patience...:D

They have to phase out Windows 7 soon.
Have people use 8.1 and 10.

As valeman and USAFret are pointing out MS wants to dump Win 7 so you will not see official support for Ryzen on Win 7. They will not fix any problems that arise. Now as far as will it work? Wait for the hardware to drop and several of the testing sites/people on the web will try it and answer that question for you. At this point it is impossible to say how well it does or doesn't work and they are all guessing.

Maybe? What does AMD expect? A 7 user can buy the chip, format their drive, install the OS and have a wait and see attitude at that point? WHAMMY! Sorry, you just installed a useless OS. It would seem that this close to launch we the consumer would have enough ammunition to make an informed decision:pfff:.

1. If you (or anyone) buys this right from day one and expect zero issues, especially with an 8 year old OS...I might have a bridge that would interest you.

2. AMD has not said a single word about Win 7 compatibility. Anything we might read elsewhere is pure speculation.

3. Should this line of chips also support XP, Win2000, Win 95? Obviously not.

Will Win 7 install on this?
Maybe, maybe not.

Since none of us reading this work in the R&D department of AMD...Let us wait and see.

You make good points. Obviously it will take some time before bugs and other issues may be found. Still, my point is the fact that AMD isn't allowing the consumer to make an informed decision. It will probably work fine with Win 3.0 but 7 is an unknown.

Not bloated but has an INSANE amount of information that M$ will harvest. Sure, one can opt out of many of those options during the install but there are still at least a dozen other ways M$ will harvest your info, anonymous or not. Go through all regular options and the services and still the registry is needed for some.

MS has backported that. All that harvesting exists in 8.1 and 7.

And what exists in Win 10 is far less than what happens with your cell phone, google, customer rewards card at the grocery store.....
If you think you can avoid all that by avoiding Win 10...hahahahaha.

Of course not. Those avenues are well outside of the scope of Ryzen, 7 or 10.

Will Windows 7 be installable on a Ryzen system? Probably.

The real questions are:
Will Windows 7 be able to use any of the new features built into Ryzen? Very Doubtful, unless Windows 7 already supports said feature already.
Will Windows 7 see any performance increase when installed on a Ryzen system? Maybe a marginal improvement.

I get that some people don't want to upgrade from Windows 7, it's your computer after all. Just don't expect hardware, software, and gaming companies to keep accommodating your choice by making hardware, drivers, and games compatible with an unsupported OS.

That's why I've had updates disabled for a while...long before they backported the telemety updates to 7. I only have it on a throwaway machine anyways...Arch on everything else. 10 is just too awful for me to use.
