Problem - There are 2 PCs on a wired network. PC1 plays online games that are sensitive to latency fluctuations. PC2 occasionally watches youtube and netflix videos. When PC2 watches videos, PC1 experiences latency fluctuations that makes gaming unbearable.

I have an Asus RT-N66U, and I tried to set up QoS settings so that PC1 gets highest priority on traffic, but it doesn't seem to work. Can someone help me set this up correctly? This is what I have tried to do:

Both PC1 and PC2 are added through MAC address. PC1 is given highest priority for all ports, PC2 is given low priority for all ports. However, whenever video buffers on PC2, I can see on the modem traffic browser a spike in incoming traffic, which correlates to the spike in latency on PC1 when connected to online games.

High medium low is a bunch of crap it means nothing.

The other problem you have is you are attempting to limit upload traffic when your problem is likely download traffic. Not sure the factory firmware has that ability...it might but I have not used factory firmware for a long time. I am going to bet that your router support the asus-merlin firmware. That has the ability to set upload and download rates on certain machines to fixed values so they do not exceed.

Still all you are really going to accomplish is to make the netflix and youtube traffic buffer and stutter. You best have a agreement with the other person that it is fine if they get poor performance so your games can run well. The only solution to this problem really...

The only solution to this problem really is to buy more bandwidth, QoS is a bandaid to get past very small intermittent problems it does not fix a lack of bandwidth issue.
