Older i5 with higher clock or newer i5 with lower clock?

I was wondering if anyone knew which might be better; I have an i5 3450 running at 3959mhz with 16gb ddr3 at 17--mhz on a Gigabyte Z77-D3H. I could potentially get an i5 6400 at stock 2.7ghz with 16gb ddr4 at 2133mhz on an MSI B150PCMate.
I understand that comparing CPU clock speeds over different generations isn't really measurable but the question still stands if anyone has any insight over if there would be any significant performance difference? Thanks in advance.

Aside from possibly a few newer features on the newer motherboard it would be an expensive side grade. Very little performance difference if any at all. If looking at a newer cpu to improve performance over what you've got a 7600k or 6600k oc'd would be something to look at. Whether it's worth it to you or not is another matter, it would mean ddr4, a new motherboard, a windows reinstall, an aftermarket cooler (if you don't already have one) on top of a more expensive cpu than you're looking at with a 6400.

Depending which version of windows you're running it may require a new version if you went with the most recent kaby lake. It's not officially supported on anything older than win10 so if you're for instance running win7 or 8.1 and...
