As title says, I'm looking to replace an old Pentium G2020,from an old rig, with an i5 3470S.

Mobo

  • PSU

Questions:

1) Will my mobo need a bios upgrde?

2) I have a stock cooler, would I need a replacement?

3) An easy mehod to replace the pentium? (video helps)

4) I also upgraded to an R9 280X; is the 3470S even worth it for today and even tommorows games? (Witcher 3, Mass Effect Andromeda) Should I pay a bit more for a new mobo and a 8300?

Thanks for reading, and have a good day!

Solution
1 and 2 : No.

3. Watch for corners that has arrow mark on it. Put it accordingly. Careful of those pins. They're quite delicate and prone to bent if handled harshly, resulted in blank screen as you boot.

4. Yes, it's still quite decent of a CPU. It would take a $500 class of latest gen GPU no matter which side it would be to be even worth the upgrade from your current platform.
Even then, it would only need a step up to an i7 K and decent cooler.
