Weird issues after installing M.2 SSD

Hello,

I recently got my Samsung 960 Evo 250GB M.2 NVMe SSD. I had no issues with my PC before installing it. But, when I installed the new SSD and turned the PC on, it just started bootlooping. Like no POST, no video output, just turns on, turns off after a few seconds and turns back on. I waited for about three reboots and then switched off the power supply. After that, I switched my PC back on and then, on the first boot it posted, detected the SSD and I could even boot into Windows and use the PC with no problems. I used the as normal for about two days. Then, all of sudden, it started rebooting after POST, when I turned it on after a shutdown. So I tried entering BIOS on one of the reboots, but the BIOS completely froze. To my surprise, I didn't need to hard reboot my PC to get out of the frozen BIOS screen. It turned off right after a power button push. When I turned it on, it just booted into Windows and everything was normal. Also, one thing to mention, is that now, everytime I turn on my PC, I can see a greyish line appear for a fraction of a second on the POST screen, when ASUS splash logo is displayed. I was starting to get afraid that something is wrong with my GPU, but I ran Valley Benchamark succesfully for about 30 minutes to test the GPU.

So now, can someone tell me what can cause these issues? I inserted the SSD really carefully and used an antistatic wrist band while doing that. Also my computer has been on for long periods of time during recent days and I had no problems using Windows whatsoever. I also rebooted it many times when installing new drivers and nothing out of ordinary happened. But these random issues make me worried? Does it mean that one of my parts is dying? Or did I damage something when putting the SSD in?

My build:
Asus Z97-PRO (Wifi ac)
Intel Xeon E3-1231v3
2x4GB Kingston HyperX Savage Red 1600MHz CL9 DDR3 RAM
Asus GeForce GTX 960 Strix OC 2GB
Be Quiet Straight Power 10 500W CM PSU
HDDs:
Samsung 850 Evo 120GB SSD
WD Blue 1TB
Samsung 960 Evo 250GB (newly installed)
The build is a little more than 2 years old.

I do, actually. I have my old Samsung 850 Evo SSD with Windows 10 installed plugged into the SATA1 port.

Depends on the board.
Different board have different slot formats.

As per my strix board:
1 x M.2_1 Socket 3 with M key, type 2242/2260/2280/21100 storage devices support (both SATA & PCIE 3.0 x 4 mode)*
1 x M.2_2 Socket 3 with M key, type 2242/2260/2280 storage devices support (PCIE 3.0 x 4 mode)**

* The M.2_1 socket shares SATA_1 port when use M.2 SATA mode device. Adjust BIOS settings to use a SATA device.
** The M.2_2 socket shares SATA_56 ports when use M.2 PCIE mode device in X4 mode. Adjust BIOS settings to use SATA devices.

Some have the types swapped per port, not sure why.

I don't understand what are you all talking about. For my board, it is clearly written that M.2 socket shares bandwidth with SATAEXPRESS, which I don't use. I don't ask about Windows boot problems in this thread. I can boot into Windows without any issues. What I am asking, is about the bootloops without POST and freezes in BIOS. I wanted to know if these issues mean that I may have damaged the board when putting the SSD in? Or you say that all these random issues can be caused by disks plugged into the incorrect ports?

Is your motherboard running on the latest bios? If not, update your bios and post back if issue persists.

Yes, I updated the BIOS before putting the SSD in because the old BIOS didn't have NVMe support.

Yeah, even though, it's hard for me to believe, all these issues could be caused by the PC confusion between old and new SSDs. So I disconnected the old SSD with Windows 10 installed, then I had to add an EFI bootloader into my new SSD with Windows 8.1 in it folowing <click here> tutorial and now I can boot into my newly installed Windows 8.1. which is on the new 960 Evo SSD. And the thing is that I now have 2 Windows Boot Managers show up in UEFI BIOS, because I ran the rebuildbcd command in step three before the bcdboot command which isn't needed. But I don't think it's an issue because, I disabled one of the boot managers in BIOS and the system still boots just fine.

Thanks for everyone who tried to help me! Seems like my PC should be fine now and I didn't actually cause any damage while inserting the SSD.
