SSD can't be switched from IDE to AHCI

Got a pretty old laptop for free and wanted to swap HDD for my desktops SSD. Swapped it out only to see "No bootable device" when trying to boot windows. It didn't bother me because I wanted to reinstall Windows 10 anyway as it had all my desktops drivers and so on. Made a win10 USB Stick and thats when I realised it's not that easy. I could format drive in Windows setup and see SSD on bootable list but in BIOS it showed as "None" while in AHCI mode, took me a while to figure out I had to switch to IDE for this laptop to show it as a storage and finally could install Windows 10. Currently it's running in IDE mode and I can't switch it to AHCI, I've tried most tutorials available with regedit and cmd but none work, when I switch it to AHCI in BIOS it still shows "No bootable device" and lists it as "None" in BIOS. What have I missed? I'm sure there is a simple solution overlooked.

Laptop : Acer Aspire 5742Z
SSD : Kingston V300 240gb

I can't install Windows with AHCI mode enabled. BIOS doesn't detect SSD.

Turns out that my SSD status says "Failure expected soon". Could this be true? How come that I could install windows in IDE mode with a failing disk?
