I had to turn off my firewall to contect to the internet. Before I did that it was working kind of patchy? First would contect then after 5 minutes would not find server used all browsers Firefox Google and Internet explorer. Restarting computer is a short fix.

Solution
Swap in known working ethernet cables.

Open Event Viewer and look for error messages and codes being logged just before or at the time(s) connectivity is lost.

See if some error is consistent with the lost of connectivity.

Buy or borrow a long ethernet cable to connect your pc and router.

I.e., bypass the Netgear powerline adapters and the electrical circuits.

Just temporary - need to determine if the powerline adapters are the problem.

Your objective is to methodically switch things in and out to determine/identify if one particular component is the source of the problem.

As I read your post it appears that there is some intermittent wireless problem that probably had (has) nothing to do with the firewall per se.

Are there other wireless networks and devices around? I.e., a dorm, apartment, nearby neighbors.

Need to do some testing to narrow down the possibilities.

Change the wireless frequency and channel being used.

Try moving the computer closer to the wireless router to see if that helps. Temporary relocation for testing.

Try wireless adapter antenna extensions if you have them. Try re-orienting the antenna.

If using a USB wireless adapter put it on the end of a USB extension cable so the adapter can be easily raised higher or otherwise moved about to improve reception.

See what, if anything, can be made to work.

I'm using a direct cable from router to computer using Netgear electric wall socket adapters in my home, last 3 years now I saw a virus " Artmeis? Have it quarantined know but still had problem. I forgot to turn on system restote, so the only think I found to work was turn off the firewall.
