How do so many new builders get the impression fx is a good CPU lineup in 2017?

So, I keep seeing threads about people asking if they should use a fx-____ with their new build and they always get the same answer of "Go to intel" or "Wait for Zen". ( Makes sense, lol )

But does anyone have any idea why this is? Has there been an advertising push for am3+ boards and cpu's or something? Maybe sites trying to clear stock?

Or am i just looking into things too far and it is an honest mistake?

Solution
They are cheap with high clock speeds and core counts.
People think they are getting a better bargain than Intel, but they don't realise how bad the chips are.
Its not advertising or anything specific, its mostly just the high number of cores and high GHz.

To a new builder, who may not know all the internal workings (Such as IPC and architecture), cores and GHz may seem to be the most important, which the FX series has for cheap.

Ah, i didn't even think of the core counts! Yes that is definitely appealing. I can see that happening.

Yeah, back when I was a noob (last year) I was making various builds in PC Part Picker and an FX chip was in every one of them.

It wasn't until a few months later till I actually saw reviews of the FX chips and realised what I was about to do.

3 months ago I successfully made my own gaming PC using skylake and a 1060 and made a hell of a PC. If there's one thing you should do when building or buying a PC, it's spend TIME reviewing everything.

Just think how much better it could have been if you threw an Fx-6300 in there

Just kidding :D

They can serve a purpose but its predicated on how cheap you can get one. Newegg (US) has an FX-8300 on sale right now for $99.99. They have a Biostar TA970 motherboard for $25 ($49.99 with 50% off for the next two days). For $125 you can't beat that. If your interest is nothing but e-sports or moderate gaming this would do a person fine for very little money.

Are they top drawer components? Of course not, but if I were building a budget PC for a family member today this is exactly what I would get... especially considering I have plenty of DDR3 RAM laying around.

Oh yeah for sure.

But yeah, I definitely wouldn't spend more than that on an FX system.

becouse those "builders" have same amateur mentality I had when i was using amd, cheap+cores+frequency. Little do they know FX cpus have very bad cores and in games with many units per screen like RTS or MMORPGs they suck hard.

Try run Guild wars 2 world vs world on best AMD cpu or even starcraft4 in 4v4 mode, ull laugh very hard, there is no AMD cpu capable to run those games beyond 1080p at decent fps.

Youre starting to step over the topic at hand here, and making unbacked claims.
I ran SC2 4v4s (as well as many arcade games) on a Phenom II ultra settings with good results. FX processors struggle a bit more due to their lower IPC, but the OP was about FX, not all AMD processors.
