So about 2 weeks ago when inturned my pc off and i tried to start it up again i would have to go into bios and manually load my hdd to get to OS. I was tired of doing this because to load bios it would take an hour each time because my keyboard and mouse sometimes would not turn on but i can see the lights on my pc and hear the fans going, and when id finally getcto the screen directing me to press f2 or del to enter bios my pc wouldn't respond to the keyboard or mouse and would then go to a flashing white - with a black screen and stay there until i turn it off. I read online that someone said to reformat it so i did and now i cant get back on alltogether. Any idea what the problem could be? My friends told me its probably the HDD and ive had trouble with it before. Any help much appreciated

what exactly did you reformat?

and what do you mean by reformat?

formatting just wipes things blank

do you mean you reinstalled windows rather than formatted your hard drive

if you just formatted your only hard drive then no you wont be getting back on at all

That doesn't answer what mcnumpty23 is asking you, read his post again.

Was it just a reformat or did you follow that up with a fresh Windows install as well?

(no, they are not the same thing).

Also one of my friends just said it could possibly be my monitor so i tried using a new monitor with a new cable and it didnt work either. He also said to try removing my graphics card and plugging the monitor into the motherboard which didnt work either. Losing hope right now

Funnily enough it did for the first time, but i plugged in my keyboard and tried to hit f2 to get to bios and it woukdnt respond. Not getting the same luck as before now with loading the pc onto the screen.

ok so if i leave it off for 10 minutes and its completely cold it takes me to the F2 or Del screen and my keyboard and mouse are lit up but its not responding to F2 or Del any ideas?

hi again

could be a faulty motherboard

though unless you have a spare motherboard to double check with cant know for sure

and i wouldnt like to say buy a new motherboard unless i was pretty sure that was the problem

but nothing else comes to mind to be honest

though you could try it with 1 stick of ram

or even no ram

faulty ram can do weird stuff that at first doesnt even seem memory related issue

I took the ram out last night and cleaned the dust off it and its been loading the start screen more frequently so maybe it was luck or its actually the ram, will try taking it out when im home.

certainly worth a try

like i said faulty ram can cause any type of behaviour and lot of the time the symptoms just wouldnt point to what you would expect from faulty memory--ie blue screening is what most people expect faulty ram to do
