I am building my first computer and I bought a CPU fan. I went to install it into my motherboard, which is a gigabyte H110M-A, and the legs of the fan didn't line up with the holes in the motherboard. I was wondering if I need to buy a new fan or if I'm just installing it wrong.

Thanks for any help!

If you bought an Intel CPU fan, make sure it supports LGA 1151 sockets.

Some Intel CPU fans support multi-socket types of same size such as LGA 1155/1156/1150/1151. This are usuall marked as "LGA 115x".

Other Intel CPU fans that are sold to support other sockets such as LGA 775, LGA 2011-3, LGA 1366, etc. will not fit.

Thanks for the help! The fan I got is not compatible for my motherboard. I think I found one that fits your description so hopefully next time I won't have to ask you a question
