Hi, currently I'm moving from 2011 to 2011v3 platform (already sold platform).
Now I don't know which processor should I choose:
- E5 1650v3 - 3.5Ghz with 3.8Ghz Turbo for price 500$ - used 40 PCI lines
- I7 5930k - 3.5G - 3.7G for Turbo - 700$ - new - 40 PCI lines
- I7 5820k - 3.3G with 3.6G turbo - 400 $ - new procesor - 28 PCI lines
- I7 6800k - 3.4G with 3.6 turbo - 450$ new procesor - 28 PCI lines

I want to overclock procesor a bit (max 1.25v). Expect best one thread performance.
To be used with asrock x99 taichi (240$)!and only one gtx980 ti.

Based on above which one should I choose?

Hi,
- I don't have motherboard yet
- I guess LGA2066 will not be reachable within my budget which is 1200$ for cpu, motherboard and ram:)

Note I want best one core speed for games but I need also 6 or more cores for virtualization. Could wait for amd ryzen ;) but I'm not sure if that's good idea :) no one's knows at this point I guess :)

Except that today all we have is a single benchmark managed by AMD themselves, so actually no-one knows at this time except AMD and they aren't saying much.

I mean if March 2nd rolls around and they turn out to have 80% of intel's ipc and the hyperthreading doesn't work that well, by all means go for the 6800K. Buying today though means you risk paying $50 more for a CPU with potentially less performance on top of the extra money that the mobo will cost you over AM4.

Now it's getting even more interesting :p

e.g.
x99 asrock taichi + 16gb ram = 380 $
=+ with 6800k = 830$
=+ with e5 1650 v3 = 880$
or
MSI pro gaming x370 pro carbon (one of the cheapest mobo) + 16gb ram = 350$
=+ with 1800x (625$) = 975$
=+ with 1700x (485$)= 835 $

Now is 1800x > 6800k in games? Looks like no , leave alone the price difference but with additional 1080@144hz playing it's even more against AMD solution.

Additional note: I'm using gtx 980 ti on ... 1080@144hz :)
Requirements are still the same :
- 6 or more cores (virtualisation needed)
- best possible one core performance
- like to overclock
- being cheaper is quite big plus

Based on what I've read, It's pretty easy to get the R7 1700 to 4.0-4.1 GHz and match the performance of the 1800X. I might consider buying that to be honest with a good cooler and just overclocking a bit. The 6800K will still be faster in games and the Adobe Suite if you overclock that too, but the Ryzen lineup will be better at anything heavily multithreaded and you can save some money. Another factor to consider is that LGA 2011-v3 is going to be replaced pretty soon whereas AM4 will be around for a while. It should theoretically be a better long term investment going with AMD at this point even if you give up 5% or so in game.
