I believe my local wireless network can see through my VPN. (Hotspot Shield Elite).

When viewing Settings under Start menu (Windows 10)

Network Connections --> Network and Internet --> Wi-Fi

when signed on VPN

Network Connections --> Network and Internet --> Ethernet 2

Can my internet anonymity be compromised? If so, what alternatives do I have?

I hope this information helps.

There is always a small risk of traffic bypassing your vpn. Many times this is a actual feature since some people do not want all their traffic going via a vpn. This is a client problem though it would have to be software on your machine doing it.

In general vpn are designed to prevent anyone in the middle of the path from being able to compromise the security. The encryption of the data is consider not breakable. In most cases attempts are made to compromise the initial key exchange but all vpn take steps to prevent this.

You should get warnings from the vpn client if anyone attempts to tamper with the stream. I have never used that service since if you are using it as a paid service there are better ones.
