i recently bought a gtx 1050 ti 4gb ..but my monitor is really old..so i bought a new adaptor (dvi-d to VGA) but when i plug it there nothing happens..my monitor cant find signa..so i bought (as my friend said) a wire hdmi to VGA..but my monitor still cant find signal...i had no problem with my previous pc cause i had an adaptor dvi-i to VGA...

Solution

Yes, you've got it right.

DVI-D output is digital only, whereas VGA is analog only. The two are incompatible.

You need an "active" adapter, it will convert the digital output to analog input.
