Suddenly, all my games are running slowly

I used to be able to run the last few year's AAA games without a hitch for months, now most of them don't even open. The ones that do have an incredibly choppy gameplay (10fps)
Something I did notice is that I did not have this problem in the slightest when my copy of Windows was unactivated when I first got this computer. This is a custom build I bought last November.
I've already tried defragging and updating my drivers. Neither have had any effect.

Uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't help. I'm still given the "NVIDIA Settings are not available. You are not currently using a display attached to an NVIDIA GPU." message
