Hello Guys!

I just build a new PC. Everything works fine, but there is just one problem. The front panel audio jack doesn't work. In other words it doesn't detects my headphone at all.

I have tried everything to my knowledge and have made sure that the HD Audio cable from the case is connected securely to the motherboard. And my headphone is working perfectly on my laptop, so there's no issue with the headphone. I'm running latest version of the Realtek Audio driver. The rear audio jacks are working fine though, and it detects my headphone.

My system is:

Mobo: Asus Z-170 AR
Chip: i5 6600k
Case: Corsair 460X RGB
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64bit

Any helpful suggestions towards solving the issue will be appreciated.

Thanks so much. Looking forward to your comments and thoughts.

You could try uninstalling the drivers and then reinstalling them again. As its only one it could be that the actual jack point is broken.
If you can live without you could just use a extension from the back I did that when mine got jammed up.

Yes, already tried that. Even reformatted my system and reinstalling of OS didn't help. The only thing I can now think of is either a faulty motherboard, or faulty HD Audio cable that came with the case.

I'm planning to install Asus Xonar DG sound card, as it has HD Audio port for front panel connection. If it's really a problem of motherboard, that should solve it. If it turn out the HD Audio cable is faulty, I guess, I can't replace that (as it seems it's permanently fixed to the front panel of the case) and will have to live without front panel audio or get an extension as you mentioned.

I could avail the warranty on the mobo as it's just 1 weeks old. But Asus RMA support isn't great and I read a lot of horror stories. So I don't really wanna send in a fairly new mobo, wait 3 weeks and get the same mobo return back to me, or even a crappier one.

If you got them of amazon or another company like that go back to them as faulty as they have to do something about due to the fact the items has been sold as damaged or not fit for use. yes the part in the case is normally pretty tightly in if you have a spare case you could test but seems like a lot of work.

Does the pc even detect the headphones?

Bought it online but from a private dealer who is an authorized retailer of Asus. I did contact them, and they just told me to go through RMA. Unfortunately, I don't have any spare case. The dealer I purchased my case from, asked me to bring the case to his office so that he can check if the cable is faulty or not. But his office is in another city which is 200Km far, and just the cost of transportation would cost me more than the cost of Xonar DG sound card...

The PC detects headphones when connected to the rear port on the motherboard. Just that the front panel audio jack isn't detecting headphones.
