Hello,

I currently have an i5 4690k and an i7 4770k.. Which one should I keep which one should I get rid of??

My build will be mostly for video streaming and gaming..

My parts include:

Asus z97ar board
Cx750m
G.skill sniper 2300 8gb
Be Quiet ShadowRock LP
GTX 970 G1

Solution
its the same basic chip the 4770k is, it just will overclock better. if you can get it for about the same $$ as the 4770k, then do so, as the chances it will overclock better then the 4700k is pretty good.

I'm on this site off the iPhone and it's a mess.. My badd on the -1 vote.. Not sure what happened there..

Yes, I do plan on overclocking.. Why do you say the i5 if I OC?

the i5 is a "devils" canon "refresh" of Haswell. It's identical to haswell except it boosts higher base clocks and overclocks.
The i7 is a vanilla haswell, haswell when it was released didn't overclock well. What that poster is saying is the i5 probably will hit a higher clock rate when overclocking then the i7 will due to this distinction.

He's probably right, normal haswell cpus generally topped out around 4.2Ghz-4.4Ghz, where as the Devils Canon chips typically hit 4.5-4.7ghz. Still overclocking is a LOTTERY. I own a i5-4690k which will not maintain a stable overclock over 4.2ghz no matter what I do. It basically clocks just like an original Haswell. Meanwhile 4.5ghz was generally reachable on the better Haswell overclockers.

Since your main reason for keeping the chip is STREAMING while gaming I would get the i7. Even at a lower clock (say 4.2ghz vs 4.5ghz) the I7 probably will slaughter the i5 in that task.

Pretty much what this guy said. The indepth explanation is that Haswell Refresh CPUs have a better thermal interface material between the cpu and cpu lid allowing for better thermal transfer and therefore higher clock speeds. I got my 4690k to 4.5Ghz without going over 1.3v and I'm confident that with extra voltage I could go plenty higher.

Stay with the i7 for streaming, it'll be better:)

What about the i7 4790k? Would that chip do better for gaming and streaming and overclocking compared to the ones mentioned above?
