I'm in similar position, 7700K,GTX1060 with VS550w. What I've read is that it's not a good quality psu but it will do the job. If you aren't getting a Z170 mobo then there's no use of buying a k series processor. Get the i5 7600k with a Z170 mobo which won't add any cost. For PSU Im looking at Seasonic M12II and S12II models 520w which would be plenty and they are pretty good quality as well . I'll update when I choose one.

"Its not a good quality GPU but it will do the job"

Can anybody elaborate on that? What does that mean?

Does that mean its a risk to the other components? Because if its not then who cares as long as its powering everything?

What am I missing?

You mean PSU? I'm using the same PSU for my setup i7 7700K and GTX1060 and I've not faced any problems. The tier scheme is very much overrated tbh. This should be absolutely fine.

I know this list. The VS series was previously in 3 tier. I wanted to go for seasonic M12 or S12 ones but there was an availability problem. Plus my local store person who is an engineer told me that he hadn't received any complaints related to this psu and he had made many high end PCs with this supply only. I also went paranoid after going through this tier list but ultimately I'm convinced that its a fine psu. if you don't want to search more then just go for it.

If buying a high end pc why cheap out on the one component that powers everything and if it fails can damage the rest of the pc. There are plenty of PSU reviews which explain the better quality components and better designs that provide a more stable supply and have extra protection features. A gaming PC puts the PSU under high load for long periods of time.

I've seen a pc where a CX PSU died and killed the motherboard and GPU. The price difference between a quality PSU and a low quality one is insignificant in the total cost of a high end gaming pc. Just see no reason to cheap out.

Im in a dilemma and need a little help.

So I was running my Corsair vs550 with HD 7850 and FX 6300 for more than three years.

Then my technician told me that my gpu was dead. At the time I thought maybe I fried it (I had overlooked it!)

Recently when I took my PC back to the same technicians he said my motherboard has been damaged by the Power Supply and he installed a cheap crappy one.

Since the power supply is out of warranty my only option is to pay the service center to repair It.But since its a power supply I would kd never know if its safe for my pc or not.

So should I buy a new one? . And if so then which one? VS 550 is the best one available in my country.

I have also an option for antec 450w which is 80+ certified but 450 whatts enough? (I've bought a 1060).
