Can core i5 dual core laptops i.e. ending "U" varients run Quad core games like Farcry 4, Witcher 3 etc?

I have seen lots core i5 laptops ending with U like i5 5010U, 5005U. Can these run Quad core games? If yes, is there performance difference with Q varients?

Solution
It helps to know which cpu exactly, there is no i5-5010u. There's an i5-5200u and an i3-5010u, so the 5010u is either a typo and really an i3 or a typo and really an i5 with a different model number.

Both of those are dual core cpu's with hyper threading, even the i5. The i3 is generally slower in clock speed and it's also limited to a fixed clock speed. The i5 while not overly fast in terms of clock speed vs desktop varieties it's still faster than the i3 and offers turbo boost for potentially more clock speed that the i3 doesn't offer. Both are "U" variations which are ultra low power which is why the i5 is a 2c/4t rather than a true quad core. Mobile i5's with 4 actual cores end in a "Q" suffix.

Having 4 threads, either will...

5010U and 5005U are i3 Broadwell dual cores, not i5. In principle, an i3 has hyperthreading, which allows the two cores to act like 4. An i3 might possibly be able to run Farcry 4, but that is the point where performance starts to drop off on the graph in this thread http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2389831/cry.html

In any case Broadwell is two generations out of date. KabyLake is out now (7xxx series)

well probably U suffix series on intel processor can only run maximum games like far cry 4, they have hyperthreading so it act like quad core processor, but however they cant run for witcher 3, i guess it can't really run, it would probably make the laptop itself overheat because it struggle to run that game, Q series, because they have physical 4 core with hyperthreading usually which means they usually have 8 threads(virtual core).series should run it, because it have 4 physical core, and it use more power and much more capable to run heavy aplication and games, also most of Q series is used on gaming laptop, so they usually paired with good graphic card. U suffix on intel processor (ex:i7-xxxxU, i5-xxxxU) means ultra low power, it usually use only 15w power, Q on intel processor (ex:i7-xxxxHQ,i7-xxxxQ,i5-xxxxHQ). here if you want to learn more about that http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/processors/processor-numbers.html

Erm, what's that supposed to mean OUT of DATE? Hah, nice marketing. You sound like Intel improved their cpus so much that it's worth an upgrade? I'm still on Sandy Bridge i5 and have no interest to upgrade there isn't a single game which would NOT run on my PC and most of them would run on ULTRA settings...

As of the topic - yes the game will run, but the game experience will be ruined. If you want to play the games and enjoy them buy a PC, even the "old" generation i7 (starting from 2600 model) will run any modern games assuming you have fast RAM and decent, modern graphics card!

Having 4 threads, either will probably technically load the games in question. As for running them well enough to be enjoyable or playable, maybe not. Faster desktop i3's struggle a bit vs a desktop i5 in games like witcher 3 when it comes to min fps. Expect lower drops in fps with weaker/slower cpu's.
