For one, the budget will play a critical factor in what we recommend for you. We could just state that you go for an i7-6800K or higher and be done with it but we also need to know what the rest of your computer is going to be or is.
So are we building a system from the ground up or are supposed to just suggest a processor? If the latter, we'll need your existing full system's specs inclusive of your OS.

How much money would you like to spend on the CPU RAM and motherboard combo?

Between Intel and AMD it depends on budget. I would have usually chose an Intel chip for pretty much anything, but a few days ago Ryzen AMD chips were released, and if they are in your budget I would definitely go for one of them.
