Intel 7th gen support windows 7

I am upgrading my system from an i5 2500k to an i5 7400.

Earlier i have been using windows 7 as my operating system. As on upgrading i still want to use Windows 7 as i am quiet happy with the operating system.

But i read a few articles saying the 7th gen Intel processors will only support Windows 10 on it.

So does Intel's latest generation still support Windows 7 on it?

Thank you guys in advance for your suggestions. :)

Solution
Unfortunately, the 7th generation Kaby Lake CPUs only support Windows 10. Although, the 6th gen CPUs are good and do support windows 7 so I would recomend going to a 6th gen CPU if keeping windows 7 is a necessity. I would go for an i5 6500.

Anyways, the best of luck.

It does not. If you want to retain your Win7 license moving forward (until end of support in 2020), then look toward a 6th gen CPU. Not much performance gain with the 7th gen over the 6th gen so this isn't really a big deal.

H110 / B150 / H170 chipsets (or the later B250 / B270) with either the i5-6400 or i5-6500 will work nicely with Windows 7.

wrong. all y'all are all wrong. it WILL work with windows 7. its just "not supported". which means a scare tactic from intel and microsoft to get you to upgrade. it might not be "the best" experience, you might have a good bit of fun with drivers, but you can get it to work. plenty of videos out there of people using kaby lake on windows 7. it's an x86 CPU so it should work, and if you REALLY think it won't...why not?

But i even read a few articles that windows 7 has some issues running on the 6 gen too. Like slow boot up time and updates create some issues with the smoth running of the OS.

another question is....why won't you just upgrade to windows 10, seriously? it's almost hardly a matter of opinion anymore...windows 10 is just better. it really is.

also, kaby lake is just a new iteration of skylake...and we DO know that windows 7 will continue to be supported until 2020 and windows 8/8.1 will continue to get further updates until 2023 as stated by microsoft. seems to work just fine with windows 7 from what i've seen.

Kaby Lake wasn't designed with Windows 7 in mind. If you want to jump through hoops to make this work, then I guess the user has the ability to "get it done"... unsupported and unable to take advantage of Kaby Lake's advanced features. Just not worth it.

I tried it and there where zero hoops, mobo website had all the drivers for win 7,even for the igpu.
But I do agree with dangus win7 is retro computing :p

which "advanced features" are we talking about as opposed to skylake? it'll work and the more i read into it, the less it seems like it'll be a problem

Hi guys,
I've got a computer with Windows 7 pro and a 7th gen I7 processor.
When I starter the set up, everything went good. I could set up my drivers, and make over 200 updates.
A new wave with 118 updates came up, and since I made them, I have a message like "your 7th gen processor can't receive updates from Windows 7" - but first Windows 7 took 200+ updates. Without this message.
So, in my opinion, there is one of these 118 which says to my Windows "hey bro, don't make new updates, this is a Windows 7"
Do you know which update makes this problem appears ?

Sorry for my english, not good at all I know :)

Thank you for your help

Yes this happened to me with the i7 7th gen running win 7 x64 after the updates took some time to find which one caused it but once I found them and uninstalled the below all updates work just fine now.

Uninstall these updates these cause your computer Win 7 to stop receiving updates
1st go to windows update and select change settings to [check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them]
uninstall these updated one at a time and reboot if asked
KB4015552
KB4015549
KB4012218
KB2685813
when windows update shows these again select to hide those updates
It looks like the any of the "Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 x64-based Systems" has the unsupported hardware note and stops all future updates.

Windows 10 takes over your computer and Microsoft has virtually unlimited power to change the operating system in the background. This means in addition to the numerous ways they already have on tracking on you and spying on you, they can always add new ones without you knowing. To me that is freaking scary. Trying to even get information and stop all the ways it tracks you is a huge pain. In addition the OS has numerous really stupid and annoying quirks, like the inability to disable the lock screen, etc, and each time Microsoft messes with it you have to find workarounds for new quirks. After 6 months of trying Windows 10 I made a decision not to put up with this piece of spying trash. I'm going to ditch Windows completely if Windows 7 is no longer viable. You guys advocating Windows 10 need to watch the movie 1984 as well as learn about communism because that's where you are going by putting all your personal info into the hands of corporations and government.

I agree!
I recently ordered new gen 7 laptops and desktops.
I have apps and systems not yet certified for Windows 10.
It was absolutely no problem to install Win 7 pro and manually load the drivers.
There was no problem whatsoever. There was no performance loss that I could measure.
I'm guessing that the only issue may lie in the possible denial of native application support due to the downgrade.
I don't care. Native applications are mostly bloatware anyway and since the downgrade requires a complete format of the drive it does not really matter.
1. go to support site and download all drivers selecting Windows 7 (or your choice of OS) versions
2. Use your desired O/S media (CD/DVD/Bootable USB drive) to install.
3. Direct the installation to the media onto which you downloaded the device drivers
4. Activate and your O/S (If Windows)

Because windows 10 spy's on you and sends all your data to Microsoft. and by extension government. (IF you don't think that is a bad thing, you need to study history again.)

both intel and amd 7th gen processors don not support any old version of windows. They only support windows 10 and future updates. This is because both processors do not support the drivers of windows 7 or 8,8.1.
but all will be able to run linux or any other os.
im using a 7th AMD A10 processor and i have tried a lot.
windows 7 dont even work with the help of virtualbox.

This is all smoke and mirrors, lies and bull-poopoo. I have been running Windows 7 on three systems with 7700K since Kaby Lake was released. They all run flawlessly. They all outperform Windows 10 (all three are dual boot W7 and W10 so I am able to directly compare the performance of each OS). I do not allow Windows Updates, so the imbeciles at Micro$lop have not been given any opportunity to remotely break my computer.

I was just asking this question myself and was shown this link by another forum member. This clearly shows that windows 7 can be used on an i7 system.

I also found this one from the same guy on how to use windows upgrade. It's a long video but he shows you exactly how to do it along with other useful tips. I actually watched it but did skim thru it for the most part.

I hope this helps others that have this same question..
