I want to upgrade my GPU

Here's my list: Click Here

Since I don't have much cash rn, I am debating whether to buy one RX 480 now and buy a second one down the line for crossfire, OR should I just wait and buy a 1070.

I'm using a lot of Davinci Resolve and it uses your GPU rather than your CPU, and usually after about 15 minutes the program glitches up and even crashes sometimes. I know it's not my CPU since It's a great CPU and I haven't had any problems with it.

It depends on what youare going to do , If u are going to play high quality heavy games i would recommend you to go go for GTX 1070 as it is Better for gaming and has a higher Digital Resolution .

If it's not about gaming and u need more cores go for 480 and remember that double gpu is not recommended when there are more powerful gpus.

Two AMD RX480 would use about 300W under load but a single GTX 1070 uses 220W.

I don't know anything about that program, but have you tried updating your graphics drivers?

Wait and by 1070, 1 single card is better 90% of the time vs 2 in crossfire or SLI.

In regards to your build:
H170 will not be able to overclock so either get z170 board or non overlockable cpu (and then also ditch the aftermarket cooler)
If you cant get the Samsung EVO or Crucial MX300 for SSD then the only budget drive I semi-recommend is the PNY one. That Kinston one is crap.
That EVGA PSU is not that good, B2/G2/G3/GS serries are good, but B1/G1/W1 is not. For single GPU 550-600 is fine but if you were going to do dual cards you would need more like 750-850w.

You know Skylake CPU's like mine don't come with stock coolers right?

I do have the latest Nvidia driver

Yes I do know that the 6600k does not include a cooler.
Do you know that your H170 motherbaord can not overclock it, so you wasted money on a k serries CPU?

I did not know you already had the parts so was telling you to either change your board or your cpu, and if you changed your cpu to a non-overclockable one then those DO come with a cooler and thus the aftermarket one would not be necessary.

I bought a z170 but it was busted, the replacement is in the mail somewhere and I already had the H170 from an old build I took apart so I stuck it in here. I only put in the h170 because I didn't have another board handy. No wasted money here lmao

Ok then fair enough.

1 1070 will be better for most games then 2x480.

Ok thanks for the help

I have some non professional experience in video editing and I can tell you that in most cases you're better off using your CPU instead of videocard for that stuff. Unlike with games, video editing software can be very hit and miss when it comes to getting good use out of the videocard.

You say your CPU works great, have you tried doing the same kind of work that glitches the program, but only use the CPU and not the videocard? Does it still glitch? My point is I don't think this is happening because the videocard is underpowered, there's another issue going on here.

When you start Davinci Resolve it checks to make sure you have a GPU in before it lets you use the program. I just like Davinci Resolve because its a free editing software that's really good in my opinion. I haven't found any others that are free that I like. (They all have watermarks).
