Hello Everyone....
So I have an old. ECS GeForce 6100PM-MS (V. 3.0) motherboard, with a crappy single core processor: AMD Sempron 140, 2.70 GHz. w/4 gigs RAM.

Needless to say there will be NO multitasking! lol.

1. What's the best processor I can upgrade to?
I believe it will take a dual core at least....
2. Is it even worth it, or should I just do a new build?

My gf still has a dual core in her pc and it seems to work just fine.

All I really use it for is to search the web and skype

Solution
For $200 you could do this which is WAY better then anything you could even put in that system:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Pentium G4560 3.5GHz Dual-Core Processor ($61.99 @ Jet)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B250M-DS3H Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($71.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: Mushkin Essentials 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($51.99 @ Directron)
Total: $185.97
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

No it has to be a desktop. Besides, it's a money issue. I figure I can spend 1 or 200 bucks on a new processor. A laptop would cost a lot more than that.

What you want to do is achievable with anything from a budget laptop/chromebook, to a tablet, to a full-blown desktop (which seems overkill to me).

A decent Tablet with keyboard etc shouldn't set you back more than your $200 budget, for something that can do what you want.

Your board is AM2/2+/3 socket compatible, but I cannot find any info on BIOS support for specific CPUs.

I'd agree with Supahos that spending any money upgrading that setup seems a waste.
