Why so much usage when nothing is using so much ram.

If you actually spent the time to add them up, congrats! But, I wouldn't be worried about it using anywhere from 3-5 GB of RAM, in my case that's perfectly normal. And... Seeing the processes you have open, I'm not surprised it's using that amount.
