Motherboard: Asus A88xm-plus/csm FM2+

Current GPU: AMD Radeon R7 260x 2gb

Upgrading to: Evga GeForce GTX 960 2gb GDDR5 ACX 2.0

Will my new GPU be compatible with my motherboard? I've been doing a lot of research and didnt really find anything. Appreciate the help!

Solution
Most if not all modern graphics cards are compatible with any motherboard that has a PCI-E 3.0 x16 slot. The graphics card you say you're upgrading to utilizes that PCI-E 3.0 x16, and your motherboard has exactly that slot so yes your new graphics card should work just fine. Just make sure your processor is FM2+

The 960 will perform better than the 260x. But not measurably so. If you can squeeze a little more out of your budget a GTX 970 would be a better upgrade or even a more modern GTX 1050 or 1060.

Objectively, it's a pretty good upgrade. There are a couple of 'however' points here. One, the 960 is old tech, the 1050 Ti is the new card in that performance tier. So if you're buying a 960 now you better be getting a good price for it since you could just buy a 1050 Ti. Two, it's a 2gb card. That's fine if you don't play the newest games or you won't mind being limited to medium settings or less at 1080p.

Yeah I found someone selling the Gtx 960 2 gb for $200. Talked them down to $125. Picking it up today, their daughter had won it at a school event for free. The box is still wrapped in plastic and everything so I thought that would be a steal lol.

Yeah, I mean my current build I have right now is roughly about 3-4 years old. My next steps are upgrading my motherboard and CPU soon. I've been having thoughts of switching from AMD to Intel but then I heard about Ryzen and ugh.. not sure what to do, I'll probably wait til Ryzen releases and maybe get my results from that? I'm not really sure. Lol
