GPU Crashes - Fans Speed Up

Alright, straight to the point... GPU crashes, fans speed up like the PC is melting, have to press reboot button.

I've been having this problem for a while now, I've searched multiple forums for posible causes/answers, I think I know the cause, but I would like a second opinion.

This only happens with games, it doesn't matter if it's high GPU demanding or not, but it has to be a game. Strangely, this doesn't happen with the 3D modelling software I use for work.

When I first built my computer, I had a faulty Corsair AX860i PSU, but I lost the note so I couldn't claim the warranty. I bought a new PSU, an EVGA Supernova G2, 750w everything worked fine for quite some months, and then this problem.

Things I've tried:
Plugging in directly to the wall
Plugging in to an UPS
Clean reinstall graphic drivers
Clean reinstall Windows

Temps have always been good, I keep an eye on them always, but just in case...
Take apart the computer to clean it, reassemble.
Completely remove secondary GPU (used for PhysX only)
Clean reinstall graphic drivers again.

So, after ruling out software and power as the cause, the only left explanation I found while researching was a tired, dying, faulty GPU. I would like a second opinion on this.

Current Specs:
i7-4770K
GTX 780 Ti
32gb RAM
Supernova G2 750w

Previous Sepcs:
Secondary GPU - GTX 750 Ti (PhysX only)
AX860i (Faulty from factory, was causing power surge reboots and warnings)

Thanks for your help

Yeah, that sounds like it. You could try to see if it is still within warranty if the manufacturer will replace it, but it sounds like a bad GPU. You seem to have ruled everything else out. I don't know what else you would check. You could try changing to a different slot or something, but it sounds like it will just be a bad GPU.

Question does your rendering software utilize your ram or just your GPU?

If it utilizes only your gpu, than I would say your ram is shot that is why your games are lagging out...

If it utilizes your ram than I would say your gpu is shot...

Well, I use Maya, 3ds Max and ZBrush, all of them run smoothly when I use them.
Maya and Max use GPU for the viewport and CPU for rendering, but the GPU usage is low
ZBrush uses RAM.

At first I thought only high GPU demanding games were causing the problem, since I play mostly Planetside 2. But today I tried playing some Left 4 Dead 2 and the same problem, so maybe it is the GPU.

I don't think the warranty still applies, I built this rig in 2014. I'll just have to go get a new one

I don't know. My GPU is a 770 2GB and I bought it in april of 2014. Mine is still in warranty for a couple more months. might be worth it to check it out.

You're right, I got mine on April 2014 too, and still got some months on the warranty. Thanks for that.

I'll give it a try, but as far as I've read, if there were RAM problems, the symptoms would be different, like file corruption, blue screens and such.
