Built a new pc and didn't realize my motherboard doesn't have the update for my i5-7500.

Is there any way to update this on my own? The motherboard is a gigabyte h170m-ds3h. I have an i5-7500. When I tried to boot the new rig I don't get any signal from my gpu or motherboard. I was told this is because the motherboard needs a bios update for Kaby Lake. Is there anything I can do? I have a laptop and a thumb drive if I need to do anything like that. Thanks for any help!

There are only 3 options available for you:
- get a SkyLake CPU, your mobo will be able to post with it allowing you to upgrade BIOS
- get the board to comp shop and ask for BIOS update service (most likely you would need to pay for it)
- or send the H170 back and buy H270 instead
Unfortunately this motherboard does not support flashing BIOS without CPU.
