Start by looking at the minimal and recommended monitor specifications for the games you play. Match the LG and Dell monitor specifications accordingly.

Verify that each monitor will accommodate VGA input. Hopefully they will each have at least DVI and HDMI to provide some future proofing.

If at all possible, go to a "big box" store and see the monitors. Pick them up, see what video ports are available and where they are on the monitor. Look at the power supply: brick or built in?

Go online and search for product reviews by confirmed buyers and technical product reviews such as can be found in this forum and elsewhere. For example maybe 4 out of 5 stars by a minimum of 100 buyers. Visit several online websites. Pretty easy to...

Go online and search for product reviews by confirmed buyers and technical product reviews such as can be found in this forum and elsewhere. For example maybe 4 out of 5 stars by a minimum of 100 buyers. Visit several online websites. Pretty easy to identify what seems to be the "best" with respect to the public in general. Read the bad reviews. See what made people unhappy about the product.

Go to the manufactuer's website. Find the User Guide/Manual - read through it. Likewise check the manufacturer's FAQs and Forums. See what people are saying and asking about the models you are considering.

Look at the return policy for the vendor. What rules are in place should the chosen monitor fail?

Do the above and you will develop your own sense of which product is "better".

And remember, of course, that anything can fail. So many products are being made as inexpensive as possible with cheap components and flimsy structure. Not mention any real effort towards quality control and testing. Usually minimal.
