Now that some of the reviews are out is it best to go with Intel or AMD for gaming, gaming and streaming and also editing video. I was looking at getting either the 1700 or 1700x, was going more towards the 1700.

Solution
well, I'd wait to get ryzen chips at all. the overclocking potential is next to none (same as polaris GPUs) due to GF's 14nm.
the SMT negatively affects games performance. Wierd low speed memory support (probably controller fault).
So if I HAD to build "High-End" system today, guess i7-7700K or i7-6800K would be my choice IF gaming was my main concern.
Ryzen does nothing better than intel IRL - video and rendering are GPU assisted, so no difference.
I wish ryzen would be Athlon 64 X2, but it's not. At least not now.

Gaming the intel 7700K for gaming and streaming from the same PC ryzen is better (if your priority is the stream), and I have not seen comparisons for video editing with the 1700 or 1700X. I would probably recommend going with the tried and true (intel)

Not too sure if the this is real information. But from the info I read so far. All ryzen are from "1800x" just some were tested and didn't perform as well so they got downgrade to 1700x or 1700. So it like a luck thing. If your luck is good. You maybe able to overclock the 1700 to 1800x clock rate "non oc 1800x" but if your luck isn't good than it won't. Remember few things tho. All ryzen cpu can be occupied but none all motherboard let you oc. So plz don't cheap on the motherboard. If amd didn't lie their motherboard should be good til 2020+ cpu. Which means if 3 years from now you want to upgrade your cpu again. You should be able to with this board.

Nobody makes chips specifically for one speed bin. Intel uses the same die for Pentiums and i3, i5,i7 and Xeons for LGA115x sockets, i7 and Xeons for LGA2011, etc. That's what is called 'binning' : the best dies go to the highest margin product lines, the slightly worse ones get sold one grade lower, the salvageable defects and excess production get parts disabled and sold off a whole tier lower.

Ryzen's CCX building block comes in four cores increment and Ryzen 6C12T will be using the same die as 1700/1700X/1800X, just with one core per CCX disabled, be it due to defects, not meeting specs or no reason other than to sink excess inventory.

If you are doing more then light video editing the Ryzen is going to be a better CPU. If you are doing very intensive gaming while streaming the Ryzen may be a better CPU. If you are using CPU intensive games go for Intel as it's better at gaming. If video editing is not you concern I would go for the intel as it appears to be better for gaming then the 1800X.

I watched a few benchmarks that showed that the 7700k gave better fps while streaming. So im guessing that intel is better for streaming as well. Amd is great for workstation or a big time content creator

Get 1700 its best Ryzen CPU. There is something fishy or intresting going on with 1700 in gaming it has fewer FPS than 7700k, but its smoother than 7700k.

You can OC it and quite easly reach ~3,9Ghz

well i had a i5 6500 and my friend needed a cpu so i sold it to him. i already had a z170 motherboard so i ordered the i7 7700k since i alrdy had the motherboard. Im still waiitng for it in the mail. I hope i didnt make the wrong decision. I mainly use my pc for gaming, and occasional streaming. I dont do much editing or anyof that stuff or make youtube videos or anything

you made a right choice 1700 or 7700k are both great CPU-s.

did you upgrade z170 s BIOS-es?

Given how little performance ridiculously high memory speeds add to Intel's chips compared to stock under most everyday use, Ryzen's limited RAM speed (at least initially) may be largely inconsequential.

IMHO, yes.
to get most out of games, disabling SMT will be required. so you endup with 8 threads anyway.
But the difference is not huge. build both systems and look at the price difference.

it's just another "downside".
